Treasure Basket Class
6 months to 12 months approximately
This class is appropriate when your child is able to sit, but before they can crawl. Each child is given a beautifully created Treasure Basket, filled to the brim with carefully considered items that offer rich sensorial experiences.
The child’s conquests of independence are the basic steps in what is called his natural development.
– Maria Montessori (The Absorbent Mind, Chapter 8)
Our next term starts on Wednesday 8th January 2020. The class starts at 9.15am in the upstairs room of Christ Church Hall Coggeshall. The five week course costs £50.
These stimulating resources that might include some of the following; natural sponges, measuring spoons, wooden spoons, slotted spoons, pine cones, paint brushes, make up brushes, leather wallets, maracas, pumice stone, fabric swatches, bells, whisks or silicon cake cases and many more. All the objects are washable or wipeable and changed regularly.
Each baby will explore the items in the Treasure Basket in their own way. The objects capture a baby’s curiosity and they can choose an item independently and scrutinise it in their own time, sucking, waving, handling or banging it. Some children will take out one item at a time, concentrating for considerable periods discovering its properties; another will remove all the items in quick succession, whilst another may just love watching and observing the other children in the room.
Our experienced staff will be on hand to guide all the parents and carers in how to reassure the child with their presence, whilst simultaneously respecting their independence and allow each baby the freedom to initiate their actions and explore by themselves.
